Abeille’s Local Artists – Gifts Galore

Abeille is so excited to be a host to local artisans specializing in everything from jewelry and accessories to soaps and paper crafts!  Knowing where a gift comes from makes all the difference!

We are hosting new card designer MyHeart Skips.  These Brookline-based cards feature beautiful hand-painted watercolors that make for fun greetings and warm wishes.  My Heart Skips cards are available as individual cards or in boxed sets for all occasions.

Abeille is also proud to have Chestnut Hill author, Suzie Canale, in store!  Her adorable book The Land of Chocolate Cosmos is a great Valentine’s gift for the younger crowd.  It is an adorable story merging environmental issues with the whimsy of sweets. A limited quantity of signed copies is available!

Abeille has great cures for this cold weather – vintage-inspired scarves and neckwarmers from Dorchester textile artist Leanne Tremblay.  Her faux fur and hand-woven scarves complement all winter wardrobes.

Eastern Massachusetts-based Tea Forte is a new addition to the store!  This company has beautifully packaged teas and accessories.  They have flavors ranging from wintery to exotic and clever tea creations that make excellent gifts for any age.

Two featured jewelry designers this month come right from Brookline as well!  Caitlin Smith jewelry blends modern and classic styles flawlessly in detailed necklaces, bracelets and earrings.  Her color palette is a great match for the upcoming spring styles!  Another Brookline designer, Ojas Collection, has their beautiful necklaces and earrings in the store as well.  These easy-to-dress up styles are great for everyday wear or for going out on the town!

And, of course, there is always an ever-changing array of jewelry designed and crafted by Abeille’s own creative staff members. Don’t see what you’re looking for on display? Ask about our backstock – you are always welcome to look through our jewelry pieces that might not be out on the floor.

Lockets, a timeless token of affection

Lockets have an amazing ability to cast a spell over gift givers and shoppers alike. They have both a personal and vintage appeal and seem to be surrounded by an air of mystery.

Perhaps it’s their heritage? Lockets have long served as symbols of friendship, love and affection. They date back to the 16th century when they served as much as a secret vessel as a romantic token. Wearers would keep them close to their hearts as a reminder of something special. Oftentimes they would store charms, locks of hair, love notes, perfume — and even poison.

Lockets were at their peak during the Victorian era. European and American women wore lockets on necklaces, pins and even as belt clasps. Some would use them to hold keys, sewing notions and watches. I can’t imagine the size of these.

Lockets are a perfect gift for family, friends, loved ones or yourself. Abeille carries lockets all year round. Some are decorated with images, others engraved, some on chains, some for you to embellish. Prices range from $4 to $48 depending on the style and the adornment.
