A Muse Spring & Easter Card Class

Spring is right around the corner – it’s nearly time to send bright, seasonal greetings to the special people in your life! At the A Muse Spring & Easter Greetings class you will use A Muse Artstamps’s wonderful line of papers, wood-mounted rubber stamps, ribbons and embellishments to make five (5) unique and adorable cards that are sure to delight those who receive them.

Techniques highlighted in this class include heat embossing (with pigment ink) and use of border punches.  Class fee includes all supplies and materials.

Hammered Hoop Earrings

In this class, students will create a beautiful pair of sterling silver earrings that are wrapped in delicate beads by using pre-shaped hoops. Learn about the basics of hammering, wire gauge, tools and techniques – how to wrap beads directly onto hammered wire.

Students also will see examples of how hammered rings can be used in a variety of jewelry making projects, such as chain necklaces or bracelets. 10% discount will be given for supplies and all purchases made the day of the class.

When it come to inspiration, the blogosphere is an excellent source of prose, pictures, music and videos. Personally, I find images most inspiring. I follow a huge number of blogs online to inspire crafting, decorating and stylish living in general.Here are a few of my favorites:

  • As a lingerie designer I keep an eye on Frou Frou Fashionista to spot the latest trends and popular color choices. I also like to reinterpret some fancy designer brands into affordable pasties and pastie kits!
  • The Paris Apartment puts a classic french spin on all things stylish.I often find inspiration here for paper crafts.
  • The Oh Joy! Blog features inspiration and design finds from designer Joy Cho. Cho is the co-author of the soon to be released book Creative, Inc., which promises to be a great read for anyone intrested in starting their own creative small business.
  • Black, White and Yellow is another decor heavy blog. What can I say? I dig decor blogs. They often have great art and really interesting color insipirations. Maybe I should have been an interior decorator in a previous life

After School Workshops

This Winter, we are inviting young people from ages 9-15 to come and hang out at Abeille in Brookline Village every  Wednesday and/or Friday from 2:30pm – 4:30pm. Also available at 12:15 on early release dates. Pickup at the Pierce or Lawrence school can be arrange upon request. We will have a different craft project each session.

When you attend your first class you will receive your “Bee List” card. This card allows you to receive 10% off all beads and materials until June 1, 2010. You will receive a stamp for every class you take and when you take 5 classes the 6th one is FREE! Your card will be valid through June 1, 2010 and is transferable among siblings.

Students are asked to bring a snack and bottle of water to class or visit the shop next store to pickup bottled beverages.

Cost is $30.00 per class and includes materials. Advance Registration is requested for all classes as space is limited.

Amethyst has a rich history, dating back to the Greeks and Romans.  There are several stories in Greek mythology as to how Amethyst got its purple color.  In one version, the God of wine sheds tears of wine that stained a crystalline quartz statue of his unrequited love purple.  Amethysts are said to possess many powers and in medieval times, soldiers wore it for protection and to provide good fortune in war.  It was believed that the Amethyst could also protect crops from tempests and locusts, as well as drive out evil spirits, in general.  Amethysts were once prized gemstones, in the same class as diamonds and rubies, and were often found in the jewelry of the royals.  In fact, the Empress Catherine the Great of Russia once sent thousands of miners into the Ural range solely to search for Amethysts.

In modern times, amethyst is more widely available, and many gem therapists believe that the Amethyst has a cleansing and healing affect.  It is said that people in need of a calming effect or who have suffered a great loss gravitate towards this powerful gem.

Learn to Photograph Your Jewelry Workshop

In this open demonstration, our demonstrator Terri will show how to photograph your jewelry using the Light shed kit with a regular point and shoot digital camera to show how the kit works and can be used at home without having to learn or buy a fancy camera. She’ll also cover some key techniques if you have one of those fancy cameras. Then, everyone will have the chance to either shoot their work (so bring your digital camera) or Terri will take some shots for you.

Bring two or three pieces you’d like to have photographed as well as your digital camera. If you don’t have a camera, you may want to bring along a USB key so that you can take your pictures home with you.
