June Birthstone (Pearl)

Were you lucky enough to be born in June? Congratulations, your birthstone is the soignee pearl. Pearls are a wonderful accessory to pair with jeans or a little black dress. They add an understated elegance that always looks great, no matter what your stylish preference!

Pearls originate from oysters and other mollusks; when a tiny grain of sand or other object gets stuck inside the oyster, it covers it with layers of nacre. Most pearls nowadays are man-made. But natural pearls can still be found, mostly in the Persian Gulf, the South Pacific Islands, and on the coasts of Venezuela, Panama, and California.

From Audrey Hepburn to Jackie O., pearls symbolize an understated glamour. Abeille has several gorgeous jewelry items using pearls, such as the Blushing Bride Pearl Earrings, The World is Yours Earrings, and the Green Tea, Not Latte Necklace. 25% off Pearls until June 30th 2011

May Birthstone (Emerald)

Happy Birthday to everyone born in May! Your birthstone is the emerald, a gorgeous and bright green gem. Emerald was a powerful stone to many different cultures. The ancient Egyptians believed it symbolized eternal youth, while the ancient Romans associated it with fertility and rebirth. During the sixteenth century, Spanish Conquistadors found the indigenous people of Latin America wearing sumptuous emeralds and starting mining the beautiful gem. Emeralds are durable but still suspect to breaking due to inclusions found within the gem. Hence, fine emeralds are extremely rare, valuable, and expensive!

Love emeralds but can’t afford them? Abeille has tons of 4mm Swarovski® crystals reminiscent of the lustrous green gem, aptly titled “Emerald.” So stop by and make yourself a gorgeous pair of earrings or necklace to honor the month you were born in!

April Birthstone (Diamond)

Congratulations to those born in April! Your birthstone is the sparkling diamond. The diamond is the hardest substance on earth. They are found mostly in South Africa, Russia, and in Arkansas. Throughout the world, diamonds come in a variety of colors; yellow and colorless diamonds are most commonly used.

Diamonds have a unique history behind them. The word diamond comes from the Greek word “adamastos”, meaning invincible. In 1477, the Archduke Maximilian of Austria gave a diamond ring to his fiancee, Mary of Burgundy. His gift started the tradition of buying diamonds as engagement rings to honor the prospect of marriage.

Ever since Marilyn Monroe uttered the immortal phrase “diamonds are a girls best friend,” diamonds have always been in style. Whether it’s a pair of tiny diamond studs for a girl celebrating her sixteenth birthday, or a longer strand of diamonds for an older woman, you can’t go wrong with this beautiful gem! Abeille has a pair of beautiful crystal ball earrings resembling diamonds for just $35.

March Birthstone (Aquamarine)

Were you born in March? Lucky you, your birthstone is Aquamarine! The word comes  from the Latin “Aqua” and “mare” meaning sea water. The ancient Romans believed the  stone was symbolic of Neptune, the god of the sea, and could provide protective powers  against the dangers of the ocean. The ancients also believed that the stone had magical healing properties, especially when submerged in water, to cure illnesses of the heart, liver, stomach, and throat. The gem symbolizes safety and security, especially with long-term relationships. Aquamarine can be found in many places, most notably in Brazil, as well as China, India, Australia, Africa, and the United States.

Aquamarine encapsulates all the beautiful colors of the sea. The light, crystalline blue-green color is sure to dazzle and delight. The color emphasizes the soft blue of one’s eyes, or brings out the green in a teal sweater. Pair this gem with jeans and a t-shirt for a casual yet cool look. Abeille has many different beads in Aquamarine, ranging from elegant Swarovski® crystals to strands of Aquamarine rice pearls. Why not stop by the store and see what works for you!
